July 2015 - November 2019: Peri-operative Practitioner, Spire Healthcare, Murrayfield, Edinburgh.

August 2015 - present: Instructor at Good Samaritan First Aid Centre.

November 2013 – present: Full Time Staff Nurse at Tor Christian Nursing Home
Responsible for all aspects of care for residents in the home. Regularly in-charge of nursing home providing quality care for 50 residents. Liaising with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure professional personalised care is maintained for each resident and their relatives. Ensuring regular Supervisions and Appraisals are completed for all staff.
March 2012 – November 2013: Part-time SVQ Assessor
Responsible for the assessment of SVQ candidates at level 2, 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care. Working both independently and as part of a small team. Ensuring that candidates complete their awards and learn from the process through my mentorship.
2008 – 2012: Part-time First Aid Instructor, Mines Rescue.
Responsible for First Aid Training of First Aid At Work, FAAW Refresher, Paediatric First Aid and other lesser First Aid courses plus Automated External Defibrillator, M.A.R.S., Entonox, Oxygen administration, Moving and Handling, and suspension trauma for Mines Rescue at Crossgates. Working both on and off the station.
2005 – 2012: Part-time SVQ Assessor in Care/First Aid Trainer
Responsible for the organisation candidates working on SVQ level 2 and 3 in Care. Maintaining constant contact and assistance for all candidates and meeting with them and assessing their work at least every two weeks. First Aid Training in a wide variety of settings – see 2002-2007
2005 – 2012: Queen Margaret Hospital Theatre Bank Nurse
Main responsibilities – Working in the Operating Department and covering a wide range of specialities. Specialities included – general surgery, orthopaedics, maxillo-facial, gynaecology, vascular, urology, endoscopy and trauma. Responsible for pre, peri and post operative care of patients including recovery. Responsible for documentation, operating procedures, etc within the department.
2002 – 2007: Part-time Lecturer in Health and Social Care
Main responsibilities – teaching and assessing a broad spectrum of subjects including First Aid. Teaching in a wide variety of settings, e.g. community centres, prisons, college, – to a wide variety of students – ex-addicts, prisoners, children and adults, college students and care staff. It is my responsibility to ensure the competence of my students whilst providing safe, clean equipment for the classes. I am also responsible for discipline within the classes and for ensuring a good learning environment for my students.
2001 – 2002: Nursery Nurse/Teaching Auxiliary/Special Needs Auxiliary – Supply
Main responsibilities -
Nursery Nurse – working with nursery aged children in Fife Council Nurseries within Primary School Settings.
Teaching Auxiliary – assisting teachers within Primary Schools with classroom work, photocopying, discipline, artwork, etc.
Special Needs Auxiliary – caring for children on a one-to-one basis who require special assistance due to social, physical or emotional problems.
2000– 2002: Paediatric Home Care Team Staff Nurse
Main responsibilities – caring for ill/disabled children in their own homes. This work environment includes care of ventilated and paralysed children and some who are terminally ill. Showing consideration and care of relatives and friends and respecting their wishes for their children and their own privacy.

Paediatric Nurse – as above.
Community Bank Nurse – ensuring patient safety and comfort in private homes and ensuring medication is given accurately. Liaising with day staff via senior nurses when information regarding patients has to be relayed. Building a rapport with patients and advising and listening to them as necessary. Assisting where possible with friends/relatives’ problems concerning the patients.
Occupational Health Bank Nurse – on call for all medical emergencies within Rosyth dockyard. Also involved in health surveillance and promotion of safe working areas and techniques. Liaising with Health and Safety Executives. Running treatment rooms for “walking wounded”. Ambulance driving/first aid provided for other accidents within the dockyard. Updating and maintaining written and computed documentation as required.
Queen Margaret Hospital Bank Nurse – working to the best of my ability in a wide range of specialities as required. Taking charge of wards overnight and often in charge of the Recovery Department during evening shifts and weekends.
1995 – 1998: Queen Margaret “E” Grade Recovery Nurse
Main responsibilities – immediate post-operative care for adults and children. Extubation techniques for all types of airways. Precise monitoring of all vital signs until patient fully awake. Safe handling procedures. Accurate documentation. Liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Administration of prescribed medication. Care of wounds, limbs, bladder washouts, etc. Preparation of equipment and cleaning of laryngeal masks etc., for future use. Taking charge of the area in the absence of the Charge Nurse. Pre-operative and post-operative visits to re-assure patients and explain procedures, etc. Caring for artificially ventilated patients.
1993 – 1995: Queen Margaret Hospital “E” Grade Staff Nurse in Short Stay
Main responsibilities: Dealing with oncology, haematology, pre-admission assessment, endoscopy, urology, urodynamics, maxillo-facial, general surgery, angiography, chronic pain patient care, gynaecology, orthopaedics and emergency admissions (e.g. self-poisoning and head injury).
1991 – 1993: West Fife Hospital “E” Grade Theatre Staff Nurse
Main responsibilities – assessing the psychological and physical condition of patients during theatre care. Working as an efficient and effective member in a multi-disciplinary team. Exercising leadership qualities. Assisting with the orientation of new staff members. Teaching and guiding student nurses. Ensuring the application of local policies and encouraging and participating in research based practice.

Main responsibilities – The duties of this post were similar to those outlined above although they were less refined and carried less responsibility.
